The last 9 Queens Academy on August 9th at Bookmans was a little bittersweet. On the one hand, the Academy was another huge success attracting tons of new faces and players. But this was also the last Tucson 9 Queens Academy for board member and instructor Jenelle Wallace. Jenelle is leaving Tucson in September for Stanford where she will not only be enrolling as a freshman but also starting her own chess academy series for women! While we are so excited for her, we will definitely miss Jenelle here in Tucson.
For the past year Jenelle has volunteered to teach the advanced group at the 9 Queens Academies every month. She has created some fantastic lessons involving positions from female grandmasters, like the puzzle shown below.
To find out more about this puzzle, check out Alexandra Kosteniuk’s blog post all about the game.
Next month’s 9 Queens Academy will be on September 13 at the Saguaro Girl Scout Council at 4300 Broadway Blvd.
It will be from 2-4 pm. Hope to see you there!
