Today we conquered our fears of the chess clock and practiced simple mates with less than two minutes on the clock. We learned the ladder mate and the queen dance, and everyone made it in plenty of time. Probably the best way to overcome the anxiety that comes with “being timed” is just to practice with it; then it becomes less scary. What do you think? Then the girls played a match and kibbitzed heavily when the younger ones got into check!
