9 Queens Knockout Invitational

 

 

 

On July 5, 2008, 9 Queens will partner with Wu-Tang producer RZA aka Bobby Digital and WuChess, and the Hip Hop Chess Federation to host the 9 Queens Knockout Invitational- a chess, art and music exhibition at the Chelsea Art Museum from 3-6 pm. This nontraditional chess tournament will feature an all-star roster of hip-hop legends and inspirational chess figures to empower youth through chess. In addition to RZA, this event will also feature:

  • DJ Kevvy Kev- host of the world’s longest running hip-hop radio show
  • Jay Smooth- host of illdoctrine and the longest running hip-hop radio show in New York City
  • Maurice Ashley- world’s first African American International Chess Grandmaster
  • Pascal Charbonneau- Grandmaster and two-time Canadian Champion
  • Irina Krush- International Master and top board for the American women’s Olympic team
  • Jennifer Shahade- 9queens co-founder and two-time American Women’s Chess Champion
  • Youth female chess players from Intermediate School 318 Brooklyn, long running national chess champions.

The female scholastic national champions will partner with the hip hop celebrities to serve as an all-star team in a knockout chess tournament.
